REACTOR

ABOUT US

Reactor – a space for creative experiments is a performing arts venue, operating since 2014 on no. 4 Petőfi Sándor street in Cluj-Napoca, as both a bubble in the middle of the city and a place deeply connected with it

Openness to people and ideas has transformed Reactor into a catalyst for creative energies, a place that encourages freedom of expression and artistic experimentation. Responsibility for its own discourse and curiosity for new artistic expressions have brought together a community of artists who work with care and commitment.

Reactor`s main areas of interest are:

  • Contemporary playwriting
  • Artistic experimentation and research
  • Creating frameworks for reflection and debate by addressing current themes (personal and recent histories, reflecting on the future, the relationship with the city and the local community)
  • Creating residencies for artists
  • Audience development and exploration of the proximity to it
  • Developing models for national and international collaboration and coproduction

Following these directions, Reactor has developed long-term platforms and programs such as:

  • MiniREACTOR – a platform dedicated to young audiences, active from 2014 to 2023
  • Drama 5 –  playwriting residency, organized annually since 2016
  • Fresh Start – residencies for emergent artists, with 7 editions since 2016
As a theatre producer, Reactor has developed a distinct identity through its performances, which are based on original ideas and focus on themes closely tied to current, future, or past social contexts. The productions often address these topics through the filter of the creators’ personal experiences.

Reactor`s artistic team consists of people who are constantly testing working formulas, artistic methods and new ways of communicating with the public.

The belief that a rich cultural environment is essential for the development of a city, its quality of life, and its public, is just one of the reasons why the Reactor team supports collaboration and exchange of ideas, maintaining close relationships with other members of the artistic community in Cluj-Napoca and across the country. In its more than 10 years of existence, Reactor has become an important part of the cultural landscape in Cluj and Romania, a place accessible to people of all ages and from all social backgrounds.
