COLLECTIVE DINNER IN THE DARK

The installation proposes an experiential portal in the form of a collective dinner. Through taste and sound, we try to define a world, a period and a space. We're used to letting the vital act of eating run in the background while we focus on other things, and sight tends to dominate our sensory palette. Here, at this dinner, we suspend adjacent activities and block out sight so that taste can be experienced in itself, decoupled from the name and appearance of the dish. Other stimuli become central - taste, touch, sound and smell - in the experience of a different kind of presence within the mundane act of eating.

Cosmin Stănilă made his debut as a playwright at Reactor, and has since explored various dramaturgical formulas, from rewrites of ancient tragedies to documentary theatre. In this residency he tries a different approach, a concept far removed from the traditional play, but in which the word still plays a central role. Starting from the community dinners that regularly happen in an informal setting at Reactor, and which create an intimate and comfortable social context, the pretext of the shared meal becomes a binding agent for solidarity. Focusing on an emotional dimension of taste, the residency tries to explore an atmosphere that stays with participants as a shared experience.
