Exciting news! Reactor de creație și experiment is throwing open its doors and officially launching registrations for the fabulous sixth edition of Drama 5!

This wonderful project is calling out to all playwrights—whether you are a seasoned writer or just starting to discover the magic of the stage—who dream of writing a brand-new play in a space crafted just for you.

Drama 5 is all about celebrating and boosting Romanian playwriting through an amazing residency program where five lucky selected writers come together each year. From June to July 2021, these five creators will have everything they need to bring their scripts to life: inspiring reading and feedback sessions with the wonderful resident playwright Alina Nelega, exciting meetings with directors, actors, dramaturgs, and producers, plus all the support and encouragement needed to make their creative sparks fly!

The adventure kicks off in June with a friendly first workshop, followed by the residency itself in July! Here is the best part: one of the five final scripts will be fully produced and staged right here at Reactor, while the other four will shine in their very own staged readings. Even better, all five will be published in a special collective volume in partnership with LiterNet! And to spread the joy internationally, in partnership with Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe, snippets of your newly-written plays will be translated into English and featured on fabulamundi.eu—a fantastic platform connecting theater lovers across ten European countries!

Ready to join the fun? Applications are open until April 20, 2021, at rezidente.drama5@gmail.com. Just send over your CV, a cheerful little note on why you'd love to join us, and your exciting play proposal (including a detailed concept and a sneak peek of at least 1500 words—remember, it shouldn't be finished yet!). There are absolutely no limits on theme or topic; the only rule is that the play can be performed by a maximum of five actors. The residencies are paid, and we will happily cover accommodation for those coming from outside of Cluj!

The lucky selected playwrights will be announced on May 8.

Our selection team will be looking for original concepts, fresh perspectives on our contemporary world, fluent and captivating writing, and a clear, passionate drive to be part of this program. We are looking for writers with a unique voice, who have something wonderful to share and aren't afraid to experiment—friendly creators open to feedback and eager to collaborate with fellow theater professionals!
