Great news! Registrations are now open for Drama 5 - playwriting residencies!

Reactor of Creation and Experiment is thrilled to announce that applications are officially open for the sixth edition of Drama 5!

This wonderful project is calling out to all playwrights—whether you are a seasoned writer or just starting out—who want to craft a brand new play in a creative environment designed especially for you.

Drama 5 lovingly supports the growth of Romanian playwriting through a fantastic dramatic writing residency program. Each year, five talented writers are selected through an open call. During June and July 2021, our five residents will have everything they need to bring their scripts to life: reading and feedback sessions with the amazing playwright Alina Nelega, inspiring meetings with directors, actors, dramaturgs, and producers, and lots of support and encouragement to help their ideas shine!

The adventure begins in June with a first introductory meeting, followed by the main residency in July. Excitingly, one of the five final plays will be fully staged right here at Reactor, and the other four will be showcased in wonderful public stage readings! All five plays will also be published together in a collective volume in partnership with LiterNet. Even better, in partnership with Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe, excerpts of the plays will be translated into English and featured on fabulamundi.eu, a platform uniting plays from ten European countries—giving our five residents and their wonderful stories global visibility!

Applications are open until April 20, 2021, at rezidente.drama5@gmail.com. Your application package should include your CV, a short and enthusiastic motivation letter, and your play proposal (a detailed summary of the play you wish to write, along with a draft sample of at least 1500 words—please note, the play should not be finished yet!). There are absolutely no limits on theme or topic; the only rule is that the play must be performable by a maximum of five actors. The residency is paid, and accommodation is fully provided for our residents from outside Cluj!

The lucky selected playwrights will be announced on May 8th.

Our selection team will be looking for original concepts, stories that speak to our contemporary world, fluent and high-quality writing, and a clear, passionate motivation to join this journey. We are looking for writers with a unique voice, who have something wonderful to say and aren't afraid to experiment, as well as people who are open to feedback and eager to collaborate with inspiring theatre professionals!
