SPOTLIGHT ON: PERSPECTIVE!

Exciting news! Reactor is launching a wonderful artistic program exploring the theme of the future

May 2023 at the Reactor of Creation and Experiment and Cinema Arta

From May 10 to 22, Reactor is joyfully wrapping up its multi-annual program, "Perspectives", with a fabulous series of events! For two years, this project has beautifully explored the theme of the future through the heartwarming lens of love, work, and personal projections.

Focus: Perspectives brings a grand and cheerful celebration to the close of our multi-annual project, which began back in 2021. With the pandemic still fresh in our minds back then, we enthusiastically decided that for the next 5 years, Reactor would explore the exciting future from multiple angles and through various creative means. We did this wonderfully through theater productions, engaging workshops, and lively discussions on the Framework platform, as well as a captivating meeting with Croatian philosopher and author Srećko Horvat—a brilliant talk you can still enjoy on the Reactor Cluj YouTube channel (youtu.be/UHR8e1uzRFs).

Our first delightful result was the show Part 1. Love, directed by Petro Ionescu, who also wrote the lovely dramaturgy alongside Cosmin Stănilă. This heartwarming performance talks about the many beautiful forms love can take, keeping one eye on the present and another on the bright future. You can catch Part 1. Love at Reactor on May 10 and 11 starting at 8:00 PM.

Next came the charming radio theater play The Bridge (collective projections of an uncertain future), co-produced with the National Radio Theater and beautifully written and directed by Oana Hodade. The play is based on touching testimonies about an imagined future shared by our artistic team and lovely audience members, gathered during a sensory storytelling workshop led by Ana Maria Ciobanu in April 2022. On May 13 at 8:00 PM, you are warmly invited to listen to this play at Reactor in a wonderfully cozy and special atmosphere created by the author herself.

The latest exciting production under the Perspectives program was Gliese 445, directed by the talented Raul Coldea, which premiered in March 2023. Gliese 445 is a beautiful meditation on the past and future of humanity, as well as a cheerful invitation to reflect on the fragility of life and the magical power of theater to imagine possible futures! The show is a co-production of Reactor and Andrei Mureșanu Theater, Sfântu Gheorghe, and plays simultaneously in both cities, with a delightful partial video and audio transmission from one space to the other. You can experience this unique performance as part of Focus: Perspectives at Reactor on May 22 at 7:00 PM.

In addition to these three wonderful productions, Focus: Perspectives includes two fantastic film screenings presented in partnership with Cinema Arta, matching the lovely themes of Part 1. Love and Gliese 445, hand-selected by directors Petro Ionescu and Raul Coldea. D’amore si vive, directed by Silvano Agosti, is a captivating 1984 documentary summarizing over 9 hours of interviews with a mother, a woman devoted to her chastity, a child, a drug addict, trans individuals, and a sex worker. Each person beautifully explains, in their own words, their view of the world and life. The film will be screened on May 12 at 7:00 PM at Cinema Arta.

The second film in our program, selected by Raul Coldea, is Memoria, directed by the brilliant filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul. It is a wonderfully meditative film about memory, time, and the radical uncertainty in the face of the world's truths, and the proud winner of the IFF Jury Prize at Cannes in 2021. Memoria is scheduled for May 20 at 8:00 PM at Cinema Arta.

These cheerful events are organized within the multi-annual cultural program Perspectives, co-funded with the support of the National Cultural Fund Administration.
