Our Stage Blog!
Summer is the season of residencies at Reactor, and the wonderful result of the eighth edition of Fresh Start will be unveiled at the end of August! We have 9 fantastic residents working hard on the show "Box Bunny", which they will eagerly present on August 30 and 31, starting at 7:00 PM, at Reactor. The team self-styled this year as FC Fresh shares a few words about how this exciting 2-month residency period went for them.
1. You began the creative process for this show in a rather special context compared to how standard rehearsals usually start. Looking back now, how was that first stage of work for you, with the residency and workshops at Reactor?
FC Fresh: The first two weeks built an amazing foundation for our team! Petro helped us set up a common language, while Fero gave us the beautiful freedom to experiment within our comfort zones and to communicate anything, anytime. If the first week was all about getting to know each other with Petro, Fero helped us easily become fast friends. Slowly but surely, we were introduced to the magic of collaborative work and began to let go of our strict individual roles (at least during the workshops).
2. How did working together go, considering the proposal was to use devised theatre methods in a pretty non-hierarchical structure? What exciting challenges or satisfactions came up, and how did your roles shift?
FC Fresh: We are still playfully dancing between non-hierarchical and hierarchical ways of working; this approach helps us until it gets a little tricky! It is incredibly rewarding to have access to our colleagues' personal stories and to create art starting from them, as well as from real interests and needs.
3. How is this collaborative way of working reflected in the actual content of your show?
FC Fresh: We believe it shines through the text! The script is largely based on improvisations, which are in turn based on elements that speak quite personally about each and every one of us. It’s truly beautiful, in a way, to watch a memory or a personal thought of yours transform into something completely new. We believe that each of us came up with a little idea at some point that, in one shape or another, made its way into the performance. This show is our very own beloved Frankenstein!
4. What do you hope for or expect from your meeting with our wonderful audience?
FC Fresh: That no tomatoes are thrown!
