Exciting news! Open call for Drama 5, our fabulous 5th edition is now open!

Reactor of Creation and Experiment is thrilled to open registrations for the highly anticipated fifth edition of Drama 5!

This wonderful project is open to all playwrights—whether you are a seasoned writer or just starting out—who want to craft a brand-new play in a warm, collaborative environment designed just for you!

Drama 5 proudly champions Romanian playwriting through a fantastic dramatic writing residency program. Each year, five talented writers are selected through a competition. Between May and June 2020, our five residents will be given the perfect cozy setting to complete their plays: reading and feedback sessions with the incredible playwright Alina Nelega, exciting meetings with directors, actors, dramaturgs, and producers, and lots of warm support and encouragement to bring your creative visions to life!

An initial friendly workshop will kick things off in May, followed by the main residency in June. Excitingly, one of the five resulting plays will be produced right here at Reactor, and the other four will be showcased in special staged readings! All five plays will also be enthusiastically shared with theatre institutions and professionals to give them the absolute best chance of turning into full stage productions.

Be sure to sign up by March 28, 2020, by emailing rezidente.drama5@gmail.com. Your application package should include your CV, a short and sweet motivation letter, and your exciting play proposal (a detailed summary of the piece you want to work on, plus a sample of at least 1,500 words—remember, it shouldn't be finished yet!). There are absolutely no limits on theme or subject, the only little rule is that the play must be performable by a maximum of five actors. The residencies are paid, and accommodation will gladly be provided for residents coming from outside Cluj.

The lucky selected residents will be announced on April 8!

Our selection will happily focus on the originality of your concept, how relevant the project is to our contemporary world, the flow and charm of your writing, and a clear, enthusiastic motivation to join this journey. We are looking for writers with a unique voice, who have something wonderful to say and aren't afraid to experiment—friendly folks who welcome feedback and are eager to meet and collaborate with fellow theatre lovers!
