Our Stage Blog!
As part of the exciting Reactor Open House project, four wonderful artists from the Reactor creative and experimental collective will be facilitating four amazing workshops for our space colleagues between June and September. In these laboratories, they'll explore methodologies, artistic languages, and captivating aspects of the theatrical and performative context! Each of these workshops will culminate in a performance open to the public. We are so eager to document this journey from two perspectives: that of the artists facilitating and participating in the labs, and that of you, our wonderful audience attending the open sessions.
We are looking for theatre enthusiasts from the Reactor audience without professional theatrical training, who are curious about the acting styles in Reactor's shows and the experience of live performance! You will form a working group coordinated by Ioana Hogman (part of our cultural mediation team), to explore ways of understanding and expressing terms and ideas used by our artists, reflecting on your own unique reception of these performances. Sound a bit abstract or confusing? Don't worry! Here is exactly what is involved:
A 3-day workshop in May: the group will watch a live or recorded show together, after which we will identify key elements of the show's structure (dramaturgy, acting conventions, storytelling, etc.) and explain them through your personal experience of receiving the show—how each person's perception connects with specific elements on stage!
One performance day followed by one workshop day from June to September: each of the four creative labs will have an open presentation session; after each session, we will hold a one-day workshop, similar to those in May, where we will co-create a vocabulary of what we saw! Approximate calendar: June 22-23; July 4-5; July 26-27; September 4-5.
A 3-day workshop in September: in this final workshop, we will bring together the experiences from all 4 labs and create a lovely small publication (a zine!); this publication will be like a mirror vocabulary, showcasing the same terminology understood from the artists' perspective and the audience working group's perspective!
Important details:
! When we say "we will translate", we mean not just through text, but also through drawing, photography, or sound! Any way of taking notes and expressing an idea is warmly welcomed!
! To make this exciting journey work, we need you to participate in about 70% of the proposed activities (10 out of the 14 proposed days). Please keep in mind that most of the activities will take place during the summer. For the workshops, we will propose a schedule after consulting with our finalized working group. The group will consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 lovely participants.
! For any questions, feel free to use the registration form. We will contact you by e-mail for clarifications and to decide together if we proceed with the registration.
Why common and why divergent? We imagine a vocabulary composed of a wonderful multitude of perceptions and discoveries! We believe that being part of or witnessing the same show does not bring a single, identical experience. Some of our experiences will find common ground and overlap beautifully, while others will spark creative tension, contrast, or drift away from the common understanding. We find immense value both in the common ground and in the creative spaces that (do not) divide us!
Registration is open via the form until May 1st, or until our maximum number of participants (12) is reached. We can't wait to meet you!
