Students Conquer the Stage: A Joyful Artistic Showcase in a Thrilling Theatre Marathon!

Over the course of 10 high-energy days of artistic practice, 53 talented students from four universities, specializing in the performing arts, gathered in vibrant Cluj-Napoca to create and present the first 15 minutes of a brand-new play! This wonderful initiative is part of the UAT’s Next? II project – Internships for students in Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș, co-funded by the European Union through the Education and Employment Program 2021-2027.

The excitement culminates with a delightful mini-showcase festival on February 17, 2026, at the Reactor Space, where these young creators have been working their magic in multidisciplinary teams!

The University of Arts in Târgu Mureș, the Faculty of Theatre and Film at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, the Faculty of Letters – Department of Arts and Media at the University of Craiova, and the Faculty of Arts at "Dunărea de Jos" University in Galați all enthusiastically recommended their students to dive into these hands-on internships in a real-world working environment, creating together in 7 vibrant multidisciplinary teams to share their artistic spark with the Cluj audience!

Mrs. Oana Leahu, Professor PhD at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș, Dean of the Romanian Language Faculty, and the joyful organizer of this end-of-internship mini-festival, shared: “The UAT’s Next? II project is a wonderful platform for theatrical creation and research in the performing arts, but above all, it is a celebratory space for collaboration among young artists, for discovery, and for bonding in creative teams that may very well become the heart of new professional theatres in the future!”

The opening 15 minutes of each show, presented by the 7 student teams, will be evaluated with a keen artistic eye by a warm and distinguished jury of 7 established artists:

Associate Professor PhD ILDIKO NOVAK – theatre scholar, Faculty of Arts in Hungarian, University of Arts in Târgu Mureș

CRISTIAN BOJAN – actor, director, PR – Faculty of Arts in Romanian, University of Arts in Târgu Mureș

PhD Candidate IOANA TOLOARGĂ – playwright, Faculty of Theatre and Film, Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca

ADONIS TANȚA – actor, director, and musician

SELMA DRAGOȘ – director and playwright

DOMINIK MARIO IABLONCIC – director, choreographer, dancer

CALIȚA NANTU – actress

The show opening that captures the most hearts and points will be awarded 15,000 RON—a fantastic prize that the winning team will use to bring their entire production to life!

The 7 student teams worked under the inspiring guidance of 7 dedicated mentors: Ovidiu Cioclov – playwright, Raul Coldea – director and playwright, Petro Ionescu – director and playwright, Alexandra Caras – actress, Dragoș Mușoiu – director, Mihai Păcurar – director and scenographer, and Tavi Voina – actor.

The project UAT’s Next? II – Internships for Students in Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș, ID 312496 is proudly implemented by the ARTE 21 – World Stories Association in partnership with the Reactor Association of Creation and Experiment and the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș from Feb 2025 to Jan 2027, and is co-funded by the European Union through the Education and Employment Program 2021-2027.
