THE DREAM — proud winner of the theatre category at the joyful 2023 Radio România Cultural Gala!

We are absolutely thrilled to share that the 12th Radio România Cultural Awards Gala announced its wonderful winners on Monday, April 3rd, 2023, at the beautiful Odeon Theatre in Bucharest!

We are deeply honored to bring home the award for the THEATRE category, beautifully won by the Reactor team for our show "The Dream" by Alexa Băcanu, directed by Dragoș Alexandru Mușoiu, part of the exciting "Safety Zone" project!

The lovely award was accepted by our wonderful colleague, Oana Mardare. Here is the heartwarming acceptance speech she delivered right on the stage of the Odeon Theatre:

"First of all, a huge thank you to the brilliant artists involved in producing 'The Dream' for their incredible generosity—without which such a project wouldn't have been possible in the independent scene due to tight funding. Thank you to our partners and sponsors who believed in the 'Safety Zone' project. And thank you to the Faculty of Theatre and Film in Cluj for being such a solid partner, even in delicate times.

I am so delighted that we are receiving this award tonight here, inside a theater building, because it truly feels like a beautiful echo that our show has sent right into the walls of this hall! I believe the strength of our show lies in the power of its echo, and the recognition and space offered by Radio România Cultural amplify this voice, so a warm thank you to Radio România Cultural for your support.

This is a show that shines a light on abuse in artistic universities, opening up a vital conversation about abuse in the professional world. It is a topic that is very much alive right now, and that feels incredibly important. We are finally at the moment where we are questioning how we work, from an ethical standpoint, in a field that has for too long justified abuse in the name of 'the craft' itself. I don't believe theatre ever demands abuse. On the contrary! This beautiful art of vulnerability and openness demands protective frameworks, clear rules, and deep care. I am so overjoyed that we are starting to claim this out loud.

To quote Alexa Băcanu, the playwright, who couldn't be here tonight: this far and no further."
