How do I cover everything? What do I choose, what do I leave out? What is most important in a human life? With what kind of surgical knife or butter knife or axe do I do this? These are the questions that an ordinary artist in Romania in the year 2026 asks herself when she decides to give a lecture on her favorite artist, Saul Steinberg – a brilliant illustrator, a Jewish man born in Romania who fled to the US in the 1940s. The intention is genuine; the artist only wants to introduce him to the local audience. But at a certain point, things become even more complicated. The lecture brings to light all sorts of secrets. By the end of the evening, no one gets away untainted. A lecture-performance for anyone who (thinks they) have favorite artists.
