A woman doesn't quite know how to float. Her playful attempts to stay afloat carry her through a fluid, mesmerizing world of memories—some delightfully distorted, others beautifully imagined! Her solitude is gently broken by four lively voices that swing between warm compassion and mischievous sabotage. Here, fears stack up in layers of different intensities and textures, but worry not: there is almost always at least one bright, cozy light left on!
"I wrote about those little fears that gain relief and transparency—like tiny, sparkling streams cracking a limestone wall. I wrote about the echoes of my beloved South and the Caloian ritual. About life itself, into which you dive headfirst without knowing how to swim! And you keep learning along the way: that you have a body, a family, a voice—actually, several of them, both friendly and strange at the same time. I wrote about her. About a world seen through layers of doubt, frustration, self-punishment, and fears, as if gazing through water. A world where you can't tell where the village ends and the asphalt begins, where magic fades into the everyday, or where life ends and death begins. It's a beautiful world where you finally begin to see yourself clearly!" (Ioana Toloargă, playwright)
"I was just a little girl when I first went into the sea. My mom or my dad—or maybe both—were holding my hand when a wave suddenly tumbled me over! The Black Sea has such powerful, energetic waves. I hit the sandy bottom and struggled underwater for what felt like a wonderfully long time, in an indescribable solitude. For me, the sea represents that beautiful silence that gently wraps around fear." (Olivia Grecea, director of the show)
This wonderful show is part of the Drama 5 dramatic writing residency program, now in its seventh delightful edition! It is proudly co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, the Ministry of Culture, the Cluj-Napoca City Hall, and the Cluj County Council.
